DIY Statement Necklace

The ultimate accessory this Spring/Summer period is probably the statement necklace. But how can you make a statement with the same high-street jewellery as everyone else? Making your own jewellery means you are left with unique and inexpensive piece that will brighten up your warm-weather wardrobe. 

For this tutorial you will need:

• Embroidery thread
• Diamante chain
• Necklace clasp

1.       Cut the strands of embroidery thread to approximately three times the length of the diamante chain.This necklace was made using 18 strands in three different colours, but you can vary this according to your taste. Knot at the top and divide into three sections. Leave two strands spare for later.

2.       Plait the length of thread

3.      Thread one of the spare strands with a needle, then wind this strand round the diamante necklace and pull through the plait.

4.       Wind the other spare strands of thread round either end of the necklace in order to attach the necklace clasps.
