The Vintage Collection: Part II

Vintage Glamour

By Millie Chapman

“Old-fashioned” is often defined as ‘styles or types that are no longer current or common’; however the AW 2012 and SS 2013 fashion world made it very clear that ‘old fashion’ was well and truly back in fashion. Rich, opulent and nostalgic were the words that encompassed the runway, both in regards to the fabric, colour palette and design. And with long hemlines and elegant, feminine silhouettes, the AW 2012 and SS 2013 shows reflected the historic luxury of clothing, which is so often lost in modern fashion.

Silk was the fabric of choice, with sleek suits from Miu Miu and jackets from Mulberry. Details included intricate lace, which was demonstrated beautifully on Marchesa’s AW 2012, and gold thread brocade which Dolce and Gabanna’s AW 2012 show was entirely dedicated to. Jewel tones dominated the palette of the runway, with sumptuous gold and navy blue hues in Louis Vuitton’s spectacular AW 2012 show, to bursts of berry red by Kenzo and Chloe.

Part II of our ‘Vintage Collection’ reflects the palatial nature of this opulent trend. Elegance is the aim with vintage glamour. Simple yet classic dress designs in bold indulgent tones, a few pieces of lavish jewelry, finished off with a slick of burgundy lipstick. Looking old fashioned has never been so on trend.
